A Turn Around is a term used when here in Lawrence, KS all of the college students move out/move in on the last weekend of July. It's a great time for dumpster diving, which can be a bit pathetic, but, I've been known to get some good 'stuff' that way (I never dive into the dumpster, but, drive by slowly and then get out and put the old chair or whatever in my car). Anyway... I was hired to do cleaning for several apartments that had been left in bad shape.
Man... I've seen some things... I sound like a WWII veteran, who is recalling warstories (please, no offense to veterans... I so commend you on your bravery!!!) But, you know what I mean.
I can't get over this house I saw this week, that rents for $3,000/month and I wouldn't let my dogs and cats live there. Yeah, it was a great looking house from the outside, nice, old home close to campus. But, then you walk in and see that it was a firetrap. One smoke alarm for the entire 6 bedroom house. Holes in the wall here and there.... light fixtures hanging by a wire. I am going to report it to the city because I see a potential fire in their future. Unfortunately, it has already been rented out.
I can't get over how much stuff these kids jus leave behind. Clothes, food, furniture, appliances, just left in a heap and then they walk off and we clean it up. My kids worked with me and they couldn't get over it. Hopefully they'll make a mental note for the future and won't leave their apartments in disrepair!
I don't have anything profound to say here, just that I'm glad that the turn around is over with and that my oldest leaves for school in 2 weeks..... bummer.
