The Fridge is on the Fritz

Ok, so, I a going to share a bit with you about a particularly painful experience this week, and try to not gross anyone out. I had an infection, and, it was really progressing, yeah, progressing and I ended up in the health center at KU. I hope that was vague enough so as not to be too descriptive. The bad news is that the infection was pretty advanced, but the good news is the capable doctor at Watkins (the health center) knew what to do, did what he needed to do, and sent me home. And, the best part is that I did not come home with a gi-ganto medical bill. The last time I had this kind of infection, I went to our city hospital, and, without insurance, was charged $1200. And, all they did was bloodwork and sent me home with a script for antibiotics. $1200. Oh, and the prescription cost me nearly $100.

So, instead, this time, as a student, I went to the health center. The care I received was far superior, and I had the problem solved. Problem solved. I like that. And, the prescriptions I was sent home with? Two of them, and it cost $10.57.

There was alot to learn from that, I guess. #1, don't think that an infection will just masterfully cure itself, especially not in this body. My body lost the capacity to do that, a long time ago. So, my mind just needs to catch up to that fact.

#2, get estimates. Even healthcare decisions deserve a few estimates. I could have gone to the Walgreens Take Care Clinic, spent $65 just to be seen, then spent $100 on prescriptions, and not had anything physically done with the area of infection....

So, I am learning....

I am really tired. We cleaned an apartment for someone who I never met in person; we talked on the phone, I knew very little about her, and she hired me to clean her apartment from top to bottom so she could get her deposit back.

Sam and I were pleasantly surprised. It was dirty, to be sure, but, not filthy. And, we were able to leave it in really great shape for the next tenants. The cool thing, too, was that it was in North Lawrence. Snooty patotty Lawrencians find North Lawrence kinda crappy, low-income-ish. Well, I don't. I find it REAL and almost like it's own little town within a town. And, I liked the duplex (it was a duplex not an apartment). And, I pictured living in one of them someday, and being happy with it. So, who knows? Maybe I was meant to clean there to check the place out?

Another showing today.... nothing. I am going to step things up a notch: I am going to clean the hell out of each room, one by one and photograph each to be put on the website. I am avoiding clutter, emphasizing CLEAN and tidy.... and tomorrow I will mow and trim. What is the problem? We have had 23 showings? What the hell?

Ok, enough about that.

Here is my more pressing problem of the day: my fridge. The freezer (located on top) is working too hard. Things are too frozen. The fridge part, is not working well at all. It is on, but, like, barely. In a fit of panic, I emptied out the fridge, threw away food that looked a little 'off' , cleaned it, and the freezer and will see if that helped? I dunno.... I hate calling the repair guy, because the last time he came over, he tried to ask me out, and he sports an Abe Lincoln style beard, and seemed extremely religious in a David Karesh/Fanatic kind of way. Creeped me out...

So, tomorrow, I clean for a nice German family and then for a friend who needs help with her house....

I am so broke and look forward to getting through this next few weeks, and for someday, getting this place sold. Think happy house hunting thoughts for some nice person out there, that needs a nice big yard, a good sized master bedroom and would enjoy the suburbs. Someone out there has to want that!

Till tomorrow....
