Reality TV

It would be redundant to say it is hot in Lawrence but I am going to have to say it. It's horribly hot, like 104 or 105 yesterday. At some point, it is so hot, it doesn't matter if it is 104 or 155 it is just unnaturally, crazily hot and more than our little bodies can handle.

So, I have a job, a job in my field of study, that starts the end of this week. It is part time which means I can continue to clean in the afternoon, but as I was showering this morning, I was hit with the realization that life is going to change a bunch. Up and out of the house every morning, dressed like a professional, not a house cleaner. Car packed for the cleaning jobs in the afternoon. And then over again the next day. I hope I am ready for it.

So, I've noticed a trend in television that I find somewhat nauseating. Reality shows with a spoiled, self absorbed woman and her intelligent but flamingly gay assistant as the stars. How many of these shows do we need? And, really how many people in the real world encounter a spoiled rotten, rich, woman with a gay, intelligent male assistant who does whatever she wants?

I really think that a reality show about, oh, say, a cleaning lady or a construction worker, or, a trash man would be much more 'gritty' and interesting. I think following the exploits of a real person, trying to make it from paycheck to paycheck would have more viewers than someone who laments having to spend $800 on a pair of red shoes. That was an actual story line of some show I was watching, bleary-eyed last night...

And the dreams I had after that!

I did have a great dream that the character of Roger Sterling on Mad Men found me very attractive and came to my childhood home in Topeka to ask my parents if I could go out with him. He was lonely, he said, and didn't have a date for Thanksgiving. I asked my mom if Roger could join us for Thanksgiving and she said, 'no'. But, I did convince him that we could get together for dessert. Ahem. I thought it was funny that Roger found me so lovely and wanted to date me. Wouldn't that be great? Are there any Rogers out there that would find me attractive and would want to have dessert with me? Anyone?

Ok, just found out that instead of three large houses, I have two for the day. That is good.

Till tomorrow. Over and out.
